are US border agents going to prevent me from immigrating to Canada if I have financial obligations in the US such as credit card debt? I already have proper Canadian immigration papers. I will continue to pay down my US debt from Canada but I am just wondering if there have been cases where Americans were prevented from crossing because of debt.

America does not have an exit customs. So they do not check any thing when leaving. Canada customs does not care about your credit. If all your assets are in Canada and all of your sources of income are Canadian, then the Americans have no way what so ever to collect off of you. Canada and USA only extradite for criminal charges. Not paying a debit is not a crime in Canada, so there is no way for American authorities to get you.

only Cdn border guards can prevent you from entering the country, not Americans.. that being said, extradition treaties and tightly knit crossborder financial institutions well not abdicte you of your responsibilities (although I appreciate you intened to pay them off.)

Also, if intending to immigrates, a bad credit history probably won't work in your favour, as we don't just grant citizenship or landed immigrant status to anyone...

You shouldn't have a problem, the only thing that you would have a problem immigrating to Canada would be, murder, white Slavery, terrorism and few other major things like that. Good Luck and welcome to my country. The best country in the world.

us customs do not screen people coming into the country at all in any way shape or form, they screen only those going into the us. if anything canadian customs will do that, but i would not expect there be any problems of that type

I have crossed the border many times, no they do not check your credit history. So you do not have to worry about that. :)
