At what point in time, did Manchester United buy players in excess? If anyone can tell me, it'd be greatly appreciated. As a die-hard Manc, I don't ever remember them doing that. Every player that Fergie has bought, went out the door because of poor performances or a falling out, not because of lack of playing time. Although I do agree, a smart move, by a smart man, to take the players other managers feel would give them the edge to beat Chelsea, but...the part I don't like, is the other managers around Europe, scouting these players for months to a year, Chelsea doesn't know **** about them, and snaps them up for an inflated price after other clubs have put bids on them. ie. Damien Duff, Michael Essien, John Obi Mikel, Joe Cole - all scouted by United, going to Chelsea for much bigger transfer fees.
I won't even get started with Michael Ballack, ******* Kraut!
By the way, to the person that mentioned Chelsea should be nuturing local talent like Terry and Lampard. Terry was the only one that came through the youth squad. Lampard transferred from West Ham for 11 Million Pounds.
2006-2007 -- Manchester United will reign supreme once again!
...I also forgot about Arjen Robben, who was a matter of days away from signing with United...now he wants out of the Blues...wanker!

Sure they do. They're like the NY Yankees. They've got all this money, and the team owner isn't patient enough to wait for homegrown talent to come around, so he basically buys the league title. Enjoy it while it lasts Chelsea fans. Sooner or later you'll have a bunch of individual stars on a team instead of a team full of stars. When that happens, teamwork goes out the window and so does the EPL title.

If these players are dum enough to go to chelsea for the cash and not the game then sod em. Other clubs will get them on the cheap (or on loan) once they get bored. I have 5 things to say to any player considering signing for chelsea, Parker, Wright-Phillips, Tiago, Jarosik, Smertin.

Rubbish, only Fergie thinks that. At the end of the day, players want to play almost as much as they like the money. Who would move to Chelsea in order to sit on a bench.

Chelsea defiantly buys players to sit on the bench.
They should be ashamed of themselves as a team, for there lack of producing local talent. I would have more respect for them, if I saw them investing there money in local talent. As were will the next Lampard or Terry come from?????

Well they may do, but don't all teams do this?
I mean look at Walcott at Arsenal.....
Swings and round-a-bouts if you ask me!
People should stop focusing on Chelsea just because they have found some money!

Manchester United used to do it, so it seems fair that Chelsea would try the same thing.
