To live. Of course, some folks live to work.

Interesting question. If none of the living thing in this world do what we call as work, then nothing would need money, isn't it? And why don't we just do work for nothing, and let others do and give us things for nothing too? So we be fair, give something for nothing and get something for nothing, and no money needed. But this would definitely create imbalancy to people that do much harder work and people that do less hard work. Everyone would want to just do the less hard work, if everything is free, and who would then do the harder work? Nobody.

Actually, survival in certain degrees is why we work....our society is such that a standard of living, is such, that we want whatever our likes desire, in the material world...look at it this way....lets say 5000 or more years ago it was just a matter of acquiring food and some semblance of clothing to keep us warm when we were cold...then of course a comfortable cave was always a good thing, or possibly some type of cover from the elements...then we progressed from there...the barter system was the way to go...if you had a bunch of eggs and you wanted a hunting spear and you could not make it yourself, you found someone willing to give up his spear, cuz he could make another, for the eggs you did not want and he could not gather since he was busy making spears....do the math...today you can do the same thing, just you will do it in today's world...so you do what you do best in exchange for money then you go use the money to get a spear...but then again you may want to get eggs.....

So that we can in some small way contribute to the society as opposed to sponging off of it.

We work to earn, then spend, thus creating an economy.

Pay taxes so that we can have police and military to protect us and jails to keep those who can't play by the rules from running rampant in our society.

Those who don't work reduce us all as whole. It is one thing to be disabled, it is something else to do nothing but wait on a welfare check and pump out babies thus taking even more away from our society without giving back.

We work to make money to buy **** that puts us further in debt, distract us from our inevitable deaths, and replace our community "roles" formed in the early stages of human evolution and civilization(hunter, farmer, blacksmith, teacher, etc.). Now we are interchangable cogs in a machine.

To make money so we can save money to use when we're old and gray and retired. Which is really stupid if you ask me. Why don't we enjoy ourselves and use our money right now on stuff we can actually enjoy before we are too old to know what we're doing.
