i never got one....they are too expensive. if you have the money for them, then go for it, i heard they are great fun!

please remember that they serve no medical purpose!!
they are strictly for fun.
so, if the ultrasonographer tries to tell you something about the baby's wieght or measurments, then tell them that you will discuss it with your dr.
don't panic!

i spoke to my sister about them and she assured me that they are purely for entertainment and asthetic value.
she is a nurse at a very large and reputable medical center in NC and she also has 2 little girls of her own. she's my pregnancy guru.

so, go to the ultrasound, enjoy seeing your baby's face and enjoy your first baby pictures!

take care.

Congrats on the pregnancy!!

I think they're great. I wish they'd had them 10 years ago when I was pregnant with my son. When I saw the first commercial, I cried. That's so cool to see the baby inside your body. You don't have to find out if the baby's a boy or girl. That's a personal decision between you & your husband/boyfriend/fiance/significant other. Just remember, sonograms aren't an exact science, even now with all the advances. I have all my sonogram pictures in my son's baby book in matt frames. I got lucky & had 3 done. 2 of the 3 were done for medical reasons. My son's father was adopted & refused to share his medical history with me. So the doctor ordered a genetic sonogram done. The last third one was done as a precaution. I'd gained 18 pounds in under 2 weeks & I wasn't due for 3 more weeks. The doctor wanted to be sure my baby could be delivered vaginally. If not, I would have had a C-section scheduled. Turns out that I was fine & so was the baby. My son's 10 in November.

Aw come on. It's your baby!

People are so damn nosey aren't they? Unfortantely it gets worse after you actually have the baby.

I think they are awesome. I never had one though just didn't strike me thats all. Plus, they aren't widely available were I live. And, the practice is questionable - since they aren't done in a local hospital. Literally, you go into a trailer to have one done. My doc said the only thing is the dye - it has to be done properly. And, doubt you'll get that in an office on wheels, imho.

However, I had a friend do it. And, everything was fine. She actually drove an hour each way to get it done at a mall. There is Cleveland Clinic which is about an hours drive also, but you have to be referred to get that done there.

The pics are great!! However, I got some really great pics early on with the vaginal ultrasound. So, I didn't feel like I needed the others.

You do what you want to do :))

definite, or a replica of the ultrasound consequences out of your list. many of the three-d ultrasound places pick to work out this variety of as evidence that you're being considered through a well being care service for prenatal care. reason behind that is because those 3-d/4d ultrasound places aren't any further for clinical diagnosis and they don't pick human beings using them in that style. All you should ought to do is provide up through your OBs workplace and talk to the nurse on the table to both get a replica of your ultrasound %or consequences, or to get a observe on reputable letterhead pointing out that you're lower than pre-natal care and the well being care service might want to signal it. I did this variety of three-d/4d ultrasounds about 2 weeks in the past and presented a image from my 18 week ultrasound. I definately imagine the three-d/4d became worth it! better of luck to you!

There are no studies that prove that ultrasounds are harmful to the baby or the mother. If there is no harm, enjoy the show. It provides a wonderful bonding opportunity for the expecting parents, friends and family.

I had several with my daughter. She looked pretty much like the sonogram had shown. I had 2 boys already and could tell from the picture that she had their nose , chin , lips and shape of the eyes. When you get it just try to picture the baby not so squished and you should be able to see what it will look like.

I don't know where people are getting that it's bad for the baby? I've never heard that, now if you have it done to much maybe but I think it's cool I had one with my last baby who unfortunately I lost at 20 weeks

I wanted to do this so bad but the only doctors office that did it was 1 hr. away and i can't drive due to seizures so my husband couldn't take off work for it. but i agree with girl that said people prbably said the same thing when you were able to find out the sex... the world is changing. DO IT!!!!!!!!! I think it'd be awsome!

It's a very neat idea to be able to see your baby and what they look like with such detail, but I prefer to wait until they are born to see what they look like...it's a wonderful surprise! Plus I don't think those are very healthy for the baby..
