I am 5'11 tall, I weigh about 140 pounds, my hips measure 34 and my waist 27. I have a BMI of about 20%. People tell me I am way too skinny and that I need to put on weight. However, others have told me that this is a healthy weight for my height but I also have been told my arms are too bony, my legs are too small, and that my collarbone and shoulders are way too pronounced. What am I supposed to think? I dropped about 15-20 pounds this past semester and everyone seems to think there is something wrong with me.
Is there?

If you dropped all that weight without trying, or getting taller than maybe you should go to the doctor for a full checkup. Just to be sure. There are some illnesses, like diabetes that can cause a drastic weight loss and are life threatening.

That aside, how do you like your body? Yeah, 140 is lean but not anorexic. Fashion models are often your height and weigh far less.

Most women worry so much about what others think of their appearance but ultimately you live in your skin and you are a sum of more than just the outside.

My thoughts are that you sound young (the school reference) and that over the next 5-10 years odds are excellent that you'll fill out more so I wouldn't sweat it.

So presuming you are eating well, what you weigh shouldn't be anyone else's business. If you ARE starving yourself, then you need to talk to your parents and see a doctor. Anorexics are not always deathly thin- after all, they all start somewhere. I stopped my daughter who was moving on that path early..before it was too hard to get her well.

If you'd like to fill out more without adding fat, start lifting weights. It will add shape to your arms and legs and odds are, you'll like how you look and feel.

Love yourself. Screw the rest.

Not at all, you're not too skinny. 20 is the most ideal BMI range for woman. There is nothing wrong (unless you drop that pounds by crash dieting or something). Maybe you live in society where average people are big. Surveys say that now up to 50% people in developed countries are overweight, that's why what's called skinny is maybe different now. They just don't used to see slim people. Don't care what they say. Take a look at the mirror and trust yourself. Oh yes, it's not your weight, your size, or any of those numbers that counts, it's how you look. You can always find a bigger or smaller dress size. If you think you're not too skinny, or even too fat, then it is. You decide, it's your body.

I think there is nothing, forget about people, if you sleep well, if you do not feel pain and you are doing yout methabolic processes in order, there is nothing wrong, just keep a little more non fat protein addition to your diet, like soy protein or seafood or fish that are 100 % healty and you will get a little extra fiber for those arms and legs, but do not let others intimidate your self confidence, how healthy you feel you are is the most important.

You're too skinny. Try putting on healthy weight and work out. Eat more calories, but eat healthy foods, not junk. See a doctor if you're still losing weight. I doubt you're right about the BMI.

I have a friend that is that height and that weight exactly and she is not to skinny. Yes, she is thin but she doesn't look anorexic or anything. Those people who are saying that stuff are probably just jealous because they wish they could look that good so don't worry about it! As long as you are healthy and happy you'll be fine.

It doesn't matter what other people think, they need tomind thier own business. If you think you are to skinny then try eating a little more and exersising 30 minutes 3 days a week, It really works. Or you could just eat some Kalteen bars(Mean Girls!)

I'm 5'9 and my hips are 36 and my waist is 27 and people say I'm too skinny. You could probably stand to gain a few pounds.

No girl. There's absolutely nothing wrong with you. If you were starving yourself or something, that would be a problem but if you're naturally that way, work it. I'm just as skinny and I've learned to work with what I have. Many people want to be this way, you know.

dropping that much weight in such a short time is not good for you at your height and weight since it was already low...try eating more and building some muscle by strength training...maybe there is something bothering you and you are just now realizing it since you are asking this question here...
