actually snails are hermaphrodites, and are male and female

but it still takes 2 to mate

2 snails of opposite genders mate. Translucent eggs are produced in a pile on the soil. Then eggs hatch to produce tiny snails with clear shell which hardens and grows with snail.

Two snails mate simultaneously (they are true hermaphrodites) by piercing the next guy, exchange semen, separate, produce eggs, fertilize them with said sperm, deposit the eggs on wet soil.
No parental care of the nest, small snails emerge from eggs and start life on snailly way to grow and repeat the cycle.
