Numbers provide a sense of order and common language. The rules of mathematics apply no matter what nation you come from or language you speak. They provide a common basis for understanding fundamental interactions.
Without a way to express measurement we cannot: 1) find things (maps are meaningless and cannot communicate distance), 2) negotiate/barter/trade (value of merchandise cannot be expressed), 3) compare two items against each other (larger/smaller/big/little) have no meaning. 4) Build structures (need uniform angles/length/width/height)
Ultimately mathematics enables all the other sciences. Chemistry requires accurate measurement to repeat experiments (or produce life saving drugs). We cannot venture into space without precise calculations on distance and time. Engineering uses mathematics to perform nearly every function.
When they say that numbers make the world go round, it is more fact than fiction.

Math is extremely important in most careers. I won’t say that you need calculus for most jobs, but depending on your job you’ll need at least some advanced math. It is important that you understand and are able to do the math that is required.
I think that it would be more prudent to offer math classes that were geared towards your chosen profession. If I want to be in broadcasting, I don’t need advanced calculus. However, I need basic math, algebra, and business math. If we geared our classes in high school specifically towards our chosen career path, it would make the transition into college and our career much smoother. Advanced calculus would mean little to nothing for a history or advertising major, but would serve a purpose to physics major. There is no point in wasting valuable class time when a different class would serve a better purpose.

math bears more importance than just knowing the numbers and the formulas for possible future use. There is much much more there than that. The main thing that math gives to a person is experience with logical thought processes based on a step by step system. That experience helps people think in a more logical manner and thus be able to better process information given to them in other subjects and on other various topics.

Actually, there was too much to list - so I'm only listing one. I am sure you will find enough information to write a wonderful speech. Good luck.

With out math there would be no understanding of life.
From the very beginning of time math was used. The Chinese with there abacuses and even before then Noah's arc. with out math how would he know how to build the arc or even what 2 means for the animals. Without math we would not have computers or music or anything electronic. Buildings would not be built properly without it.
There are different maths for different careers but everybody should learn and know the basics for everyday life.

A person needs to know math for every day living. For example, if you go to the grocery store and you only have $20, you have to be able to add so you don't go over the $20. You have to be able to balance your checkbook and balance your home budget. Math is part of our life.
