Your question posted three hours ago, so, I'm guessing at this point that I'm answering this after the fact. Where did you have lunch? If I were you, I know that where I go out to lunch (I usually do) has a lot to do with what I'm hungry for and what other kinds of food I've eaten recently--I like to have a diverse cuisine. Are you in a big city? Do you have time to spend (money to spend ;) or are you in a hurry? All these factors play a part, obviously. Around where I live, about $7 is reasonable for lunch, before tip and taxes. There's this new noodle place/chain in town that's pretty good. For all the bad rap that pasta's gotten the last year or so, I still like it--pasta really hits the spot for me for lunch. So, go have some pasta. Maybe a dish with shrimp (I also like seafood), sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts and a mild red sauce. I'm not a drinker, so a Dr. Pepper to go with. And, of course, good company. Sound good?

There were fourteen responses when I happened across your question. Of them, only "Unity" made any sense. However, he wasn't really very helpful. I'll try to do better; here's my list:

New York (Manhattan) ----- Surf 'n Turf on 34th St. And, of course, the Four Seasons.

Brooklyn, NY ------ Wharf One at Sheepshead Bay

Philadelphia -------- The dining room at the Benjamin Franklin Hotel in the downtown area.

Atlanta ---------- The Plantation, in Peach Tree Plaza

Toronto ------ CN Tower; the food isn't the best in the city, but the view is fantastic.

Paris ------ Marceau's on the Rue de Vie; the Chateaubriand is to die for.

British Columbia ----- The Top of the Sheraton; better food than CN Tower and breath-taking views of city and coast from the revolving restauraunt.

Bakersfield, CA ----- Luigi's on E. Eighteenth St., if you love pasta. Don't be fooled by outside appearances or the fact that it is in the old part of town; remember that you can't judge a book by its cover.

New Orleans ---- almost anywhere. One tip, if you take the dinner cruise, just pay for the ride. The food is brought aboard from a local restaurant and reheated. Also, don't annoy the chef at the Garden of the Three Sisters; the guy's got a knife the size of a scyth, and I thought he was going to slice me in half when I asked for some Bernaise Sauce to go with the filet mignon.

San Francisco ----- Dickie's in Wall Alley. Cab drivers know how to get there, but you won't find it on a map.

Memphis -- The Red Barn, great jazz music and Cajun food as good as you can get in New Orleans.

Champagne, IL --- The Red Barn (coincidence?) ---- the tenderest steak, and you can choose from a side dish of potatoes or cauliflower. The cauliflower was a pleasant change.

Merida, Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico ----- believe it or not, there's a place run by a Mexican national who was raised in Canada. It's called Pancho Villa's. I'd never choose it based on its unimaginative name, but it is wonderful dining, with dancing afterward.

San Diego, CA ---- actually a part of the city called La Jolla. The Marine Room is located in a residential neighborhood, but it's right on the Pacific Ocean. There are photos in the upstairs room of the times when storms caused huge waves to break through the giant glass windows. Go at night when the spotlights shine across the usually quiet Pacific. (Oh yeah, eat anything. A PBJ sandwich would taste fine in that ambiance.)

Colorado Springs, CO ---- The Den has a cozy fireplace, great fish (which must be shipped in daily), and baby back ribs that will leave you all sticky and yearning for more.

Barbados ---- just outside of Bridgetown, breakfast at the Hilton is a must. I've never had such great fruit juices.

Oahu, Hawai'i ----- If you like Thai food, you'll love Tiki's.

Chowchilla, CA ---- best spaghetti in the world is at Putter's on the Pheasant Hills Golf Course.

Fort Lauderdale, FL ------ Winn Dicksy (a play on names with the old Winn Dixie supermarkets) has a great lunch for the whole family, but at night it's for adults only. The show starts after the tables have been cleared.

Lake Jackson, TX ----- Hud's, very cosmopolitan despite its name (probably based on an old Paul Newman movie)

Sophia, Bulgaria ----- Guy Man (on the small English sign, a bunch of cyrillic characters on the big sign), exotic EurAsian dishes as well as some Greek fare (with Oozo, naturally).

My personal favorite: The Vineyard in Madera (near Fresno in California's Great Central Valley). Chris Mariscotti has a diversified menu, knowledgable waiters and waitresses, a great wine cellar, and nightly specials (often including uncommon seafood).

I don't know where you're going, but if you're within driving distance of any of the above, it will be worth your time.

How about a salad bar? You have the option of eating inside or taking it out.

I also like ethnic food and many restaurants have a lower priced lunch menu.

If there's a location nearby you, try Chipotle Mexican Grill...You'll looooove it! It's quick, great food, fun atmosphere, great service, and very reasonably priced.
