My wife has bunnies. They live 7-10 years. Be prepared for that commitment because you have to deal with them EVERY DAY and they're pretty fragile animals.
IMO, what you should do is to rescue one. Seven billion Americans buy bunnies around Easter because they think they'll make a cute pet for their idiot children and three months later (right about this time of year), 6,999,999,999 of them get turned over to the SPCA or rabbit rescue and adoption centers. Dwarf rabbits are smaller and cuter, but they can be kind of skittish, scared of a lot of things, and some of them don't like to be held. Larger rabbits are a lot calmer. Don't get an angora or long hair rabbit unless you are willing to brush it every day. If you want a rabbit that doesn't shed much, you could get a rex. They have very short fuzzy fur that feels like velvet. If it was my choice I'd get a mini lop. Lop eared bunnies are sooo cute.

i suggest a Netherland Dutch!

name it Trix(after the cereal) or Playboy if its a boy
get a mini rex but there are plenty at the local humane societies I am sure you can find a good one to rescue!!
