Yes, I'm doing it now. I sell t-shirt screen printing and embroidery but I have a full time job. The sales is great because I work with an existing business who does the work with the garments and I sell "as I go" through my daily life. I don't hard sell but I keep my radar on for natural sales opportunities. Once I land a customer I continue to make sales on everything they order from day 1. Last year with about 20 hours of work I made over 6k. Not much by that was my start year. If I started selling harder I'd make a lot more. This year I'm also trying to recruit some at home mom's to sell and I'd get a percentage of what they sell by just managing them.

Sure. Go for it. You're going to need a little money to get started and make sure you do everything "legal" if your business requires a license. Also, be sure that your current job doesn't have some type of work rule that would prohibit your business from being a conflict of interest or competition with your current employer and that your current employer doesn't have practices that are proprietary. Like you couldn't steal your employer's current customers and have them use your business instead.

We did, but we built a drywall business. My husband did jobs in the evening and on the weekend while he held a day job. Eventuallly he quit his day job (he worked both jobs from November until May) while I kept mine.
I continued to work for another company for three years after we started our business. Now I work for our company and we are doing ok.
It has been a rough road. Cashflow is our biggest problem. We would not have been able to make it without a line-of-credit and a solid stream of jobs.
It is a hard balance, but we are able to pay ourselves and our employees. Our business will be five years old in November.

Definitely, I wouldn't suggest building a business that conflicts with your present employment. That could get ugly. It's all about balance, first get it on paper and set goals to work towards otherwise you'll burnout from all the responsibilities.
