I think from a home entertainment point of view, yes - it's a complete system straight out of the box, very slim (but then even the original PS2 was way smaller than the XBox), silent in operation, has built-in IR sensor for the DVD remote, and if you look after it there's no reason it shouldn't last you years and years. I still use my original PS2 despite many people complaining of drawer and laser malfunctions - I have always used mine vertically on a rock-steady surface (inside a TV cabinet) which may be the reason, a lot of people abuse theirs by having them on a carpet which can cause vibration and let the laser touch the disc surface. The slimline doesn't have a mechanical CD drawer, it's a flip up lid, so no chance of that old drawer problem occuring.

Better how? Graphically the Xbox beats the Ps2 into a cocked hat, and it also has the nifty custom soundtrack option, plus Xbox live is FAR superior to the PS2 online network... BUT, the Xbox is massive compared to the slimline and the PS2 is compatible with all Ps2 and PSOne games, which means you have thousands more games to chose from. I'd go with the Slimline PS2.

Definitely, especially if you want to play on-line. You can connect it straight to a router and you are away. It is so much smaller, and can play DVD's straight away whether you have a remote control or not. I had both kit's, plus the 1st PS2, I have sold the lot now, but the slimline was my favourite.

the slim PS2s have alot of problems, the technology is just to small to try and fit into the slim PS2s. they get hot, they dont play perfectly working games, just because of an internal error, the CD drive has problems opening and closing, i see questions on here all the time "my slim PS2 stoped working! what do i do?" and honestly, unless you have a warranty on it, sony wont do crud for you. it such a widespread problem that it would be too expensive for sony to try and fix everything, so just like the PSP with the whole "dead pixel" thing, your screwed. they wont help you out. its the old xbox for me. i probably wont get a 360 for another couple years. the first batch that came out for last christmas were very unstable as well. they wouldn't always save your game properly and would also overheat.

xbox kicks more *** than the ps2, because it has halo, and has internet that people play onj. And you dont have to continuously buy all of those stupid memory cards.
