My period was due either yesterday or today, but it hasn't come yet. I took a pregnancy test this morning and it was negative. I know there are other things that can delay a period, but could I still be pregnant with a negative home pregnancy test?
I go to my doctor today for a pap and I'm wondering if I should ask her to do a blood test or if I should just wait a few more days to see if I get my period.
Just curious if any of you have had a negative test the day you missed your period but still been pregnant. Thanks!

I just wanted to add that I am not worried about being pregnant....I actually hope I am. My husband and I are trying. I just wondered if others took home tests as soon as they missed a period that turned out negative....but they were still pregnant. Just looking for a little hope! : )

I just wanted to add that I talked to my dr about taking a blood test and she said let's wait 5 days. She said both are very reliable but she finds most women need to wait 5 days past their missed period to show a positive (if they're pregnant).
Though she said, of course there are women who can show a positive sooner than that.
Still no period so we are praying!

You are only a day or two late so I wouldn't worry. Alot of women get their period a few days later every month. If you have had unprotected sex then obviously you COULD be pregnant. If you are, it may be too soon for the test to read it. Even though they say they can detect pregnancy as soon as one day after a missed period. Give it another week and try again or call your doctor.

There is no such thing as a false positive but there is a chance of a false negative. If you are indeed pregnant and you have a negative test it might be that the hcg hormone has not reached a high level to be read in a HPT. So, it may be, but since you are going to the doctor it might be a good idea to have a blood test though it is not 100% accurate either. I have heard stories of women who took the blood test and came out negative and a week later it was positive. So if it is negative and your period still doesn't come in one more week take another HPT. Good luck

Try not to rely on an at home pregnancy test, they can give you false results and false hope. My sister's period was a few days late and she took a test, the digital kind, and it read positive. she had been trying for a year and a half, so she was so happy. To be sure she took a few more over the next week, they all came out negative. About a week and half later she started spotting and then bleeding. we went to emergency room, they gave her a preg test and it came back neg. They told her she was never preg even though her period was about 2.5 weeks late. She was humiliated and very disappointed. I would wait a few more days, then if still unsure have your doctor give you a test, they are more accurate. I hope it all works out for!

yes you could. I would go to the hospital and get a blood test. Those are completely accurate. I had a positive pregnancy test when I did the urine one, but then I had the blood work done and I found out I was not pregnant after all. I would ask for the test now since youre already going to be there.

Usually if takes about 7 days or longer for a pregnancy to register on a home pregnancy test. If you're that worried though, go ahead and tell the doctor your concerns and ask to have a blood test done since that is the most effective way to tell if you are pregnant.

I would definatly talk to your dr about this. I was 2 weeks pregnant and had a negative test result.... it didn't show up for another 2 weeks saying I was. Also, I have had a missed period and a negative test and not pregnant. You're right about a lot of things can make you miss a period or even be late for it. I would just try to relax if possible and make sure you talk to your dr about this.

Any test has a false postive error rate and a false negative error rate. In this case your test was negative. You want to know if it is a false negative. Usually the test package insert should have the false negative error published(You want this near 0 like .01) or alternatively the probablity the test will be negative given that you are not pregnant(You want this near 1 like .99).

Try the test again from a different purchased box. If it is still negative provided you are doing it correctly the odds are likely you are not pregnant.

There are many different reason why tests can be wrong, but usually they are not wrong twice.

Yes, you could still be pregnant. My cousin took a home pregnancy test it came out negative and she went to the doctor and found out that she was two months pregnant. So, you can check with the doctor to be safe or wait to see if your period comes on.

Yes, you can still be pregnant. I missed my period once and took a test and it came back negative. The next week, I took one and it was positive. Take a blood test or wait another week. It could be stress or has to do with your diet.

Go ahead and ask your doctor for a blood test so you can know for sure. You're going to see your doctor anyway, might as well get tested while you're there. Blood tests are more accurate and definitely more reliable than home pregnancy tests.

Goodluck to you and I hope you are indeed pregnant! Throwing lots of baby dusts your way!!!
