It sounds like you're constipated. Assuming you don't have dark black tarry type stools, you might just need to start taking some daily fiber product (like benefiber or something). Don't do laxatives right now - try a stool softener, like "senecal" (I think it's called that, but that might not be exact).
If none of these things work, I would head to a doctor. If you have black tarry stools or blood when you wipe you need to see a doctor pretty soon. Good luck.

Do you mean constipation? Or do you also have episodes of diarrhea?
There can be a lot of causes of your "problem". I am using the word "problem", primarily because this seems to be something new in your life, you had never experienced it before, right?
First thing: there can be some connection with your emotional state. When they are under emotional stress, people often experience changes in their bowel movement pattern. So, if this is a primary reason for you, you have to re-establish your emotional balance by whatever means you have at your disposal.
Second, did you change your diet recently? Did you introduce any foods that you didn't use to eat before? Or are you eating more or less meals than before? Try to get back to your previous habits and patterns, and see if the problem is gone. Only change what was very unhealthy in your diet.
As very general pieces of advice, I would tell you to:
1. Drink more water. First thing, as you rise in the morning, a glass of lukewarm water.
2. Exercise more.
3. Sleep better.
4. Stop eating junk foods, and gradually increase the amount of raw veggies in your main meals. Eat balanced meals (animal protein + healthy carbs + raw veggies).
5. Use psyllium, wheat bran or pollen, but first check if you are not allergic to them.
6. A snack of fresh fruit in the afternoon, about one hour and a half before your evening meal, would also help you. But don't mix fruit with your food, eat fruit separately.

Low fiber, stress, lack of water, age...it could be a lot of things. Have a lower GI track test if you are 50 or older.
Prune juice and water can help make you go when you want and keep build-ups down.
A 1-3 day fruit fast is great for the lower GI track.

Cant be sure. But i know my husband died from colon cancer. There was a 12" tumor in his intestines. The doctors first told him he had diverticulitis. Had they requested or had he gone in earlier and got a colonostomy ( a picture of the inside of the colon) the resluts would have shown cancer and treatment could have been started right away. One of his symptoms that made him go back to the doctor was he couldnt go to the bathroom and had rabbit like stool.

Drink lots of water. It helps to make you more regular. Also, fiber or metamucil helps to regulate your bowels. Good luck!
P.S. Stress can also affect your bowels so if you are under a lot of stress, you need to try to relax yourself.

I find Citrucel or its equivalent help me to stay regular. You just stir it in to a drink and drink it. It is much more palatable than Prune Juice. Yuck!!!
