Honastly, whats ever floats your boat. I bulid computers for a living and I am a computer service tech. Truth is, both intel and AMD make a good processor, there are in fact about 15 other processor companys, so there are not just two. Frankly my friend it comes down to $$$$, how much do you want to shell out. your going to be seeing more intell stuff, verses AMD stuff. ANd its not because one is better then the other. The fact of the mater is, ALWAYS Buy what you can afford, just make shure your getting a processor that has at least 2.5ghz of processing power, and a FSB (Front Side bus) of no less then 250, (I've been seeing good deals for systems with FSB's of 300). your memory should be 512 at the least. And at least a DVD Reader/ cd-rw. And a 60gb hard drive, if not better. Everything else is iceing.

I have AMD on my laptop and I think it's very good, I never heard of AMD until I got it, Intel has always been the better known name. My cousin works for Intel and he says (even though he probably shouldn't) the products AMD have out at the moment are alot better than Intel's but Intel are working on, soon to be realised, new products which will be much better than AMD. I used to think Intel products performed better but I'll stick with AMD. I found AMD to be alot cheaper than Intel, If you want quality instead of the price go for Intel in a few months, but now at the moment I'd go for AMD.

What do you want to do with it? Movies and pic's AMD has all ways been better, but for any thing else it's intell. If all you want to do is go online, One will not be better then the other so go for price. If you want to play game's, it's AMD but the graphics card is more important in that case. If you just want something thats all around or you do some of this or some of that, Intel is the right pick.

I would go with Intel, and I would always look for a high number of gigahertz. Don't think about settling with anything less than 2.5 gigahertz. And don't be fooled by salespeople at bestbuy who say stuff like "well the frontside bus has a high speed," because they don't know what they are talking about. Gigahertz is a product of fronside bus speed and a measurement of another part of the CPU called the multiplier. This means that if you buy a computer with a fast cpu, but a slow frontside bus speed, you will be able to overclock easier. Overclocking is a way to get more speed out of a CPU by changing the fsb (frontside bus) speed manually via the BIOS settings.

AMD all the way. They are reliable, solid built, and way faster than any Intel in the same class. I can say this from experience as I have used both AMD and Intel.

Read reviews on AMD processors at the following website.
