Schertz is GREAT with many new affordable communities popping up. New Braunfels has more of a historic feel but is nice too. FYI...property taxes are cheaper is Schertz(expensive all around this area) Stay away from Bexar county as you will pay San Antonio City Taxes along with county taxes. Schools are great if you have kids. Good Luck!

I live in the next little city to Schertz. This area is great if you dont want to be too close to the traffic of bigger cities. New Braunfels is great too. you have Schillterbahn (water park) and all the antique shops. Both areas are not far from San Antonio nor San Marcos or Austin if you are up for a bit of excitement. People here are friendly. Alamo Heights area people are rich and snobby. But not Schertz ,TX. Cost of living here is inexpensive. The only thing... the air force base is nearby, so you do move to Schertz get ready to hear the jets fly by. You do get used to it. I live 2 minutes away. My house is in one of the paths for the flight runways. but it is not all that bad.

New Braunfels is considered more upscale than Schertz, but the area is nice, the people are friendly and you are right off I-35 in case you want to go to San Antonio or Austin. About 20 minutes to San Antonio and about 40 minutes to Austin from New Braunfels, though there is a HUGE shopping center called the Forum right off of I-35/1604 as you enter San Antonio.

I don't think that Alamo Heights are snobby. There are some very wealthy homes in that area, but there are also some nice younger families. It is near central market and the zoo and the witte museum and it is near Incarnate word university. But you are asking about Schertz. I worked out there for awhile and I found it very conservative. If that's what you want, that's what you get. New Braunfels is changing, but the old timers are very wary about outsiders unless they are just tourists. I lived there for two years. As a tourist, you will have a great time. Email me if you want to know more.

Schertz is a great location! Its far away enough from the hustle and bustle of downtown San Antonio but close enough to the main freeways to get anywhere you want. Cost of living is also very inexpensive.

My sister lives there and works for Randolph AFB. She lived on the west side last year and is MUCH happier in Schertz.
