Its actually a LOT better and more productive to alternate....
your muscles tear when you work them out...they get stronger because it heals stronger....
generally 24 hrs is enough healing time, but if you do it everyday, chances are you'll see results a lot slower....
if you keep retearing the muscles every day, they won't heal stronger.
If you feel you need to work your abs everyday, you should alternate excercises
Ex.
MWF do abdominal crunches and tuesadys and thursdays and saturdays work on your obliques...
or whatever your preferred routines are...

It's good that you want to have a strong core but you need to also include upper and lower body muscles to balance your look.
I say what ever gets you into a routine and keeps you working out is the best for you. Maybe alternate upper body exercise with abs on one day and lower body exercise with abs on another day.
Also there are many other exercises to do for the abs than just situps like holding onto a dumbbell with both hands extended in front and twisting from side to side to work on the love handles. Or try hanging from a bar and lifting your legs to 90 degrees and holding for 30 secs then slowly lower legs. Try not to swing when doing this and move slowly when lifting and lowering legs.

It all depends on what you prefer. The abdominal muscles are dense enough that they can be worked every day without any problems. Doing situps every other day could be good if it helps you follow a routine better.

do them on alternate days becuase it gives ur muscles more time to heal and it has also be scientifically proven that u build more muscle by doing a lot one day and then rest for a day and then do them the next day
