Sorry if that sounds flippant, but I'm serious. The days when you could start a small radio station and expect to make money with it are gone. You'd have to have enough money to compete with the big boys - ClearChannel, Viacom, Westinghouse - and you wouldn't be able to keep it up, because their national networks and cross-market coverage give them economies of scale that an independent operator can no longer match. They'd drive you right out of the market, buy you out for pennies, and take your frequency for another of their generic, homogenized stations.

Sorry. I wish it weren't this way. Radio sucks now.
