The nba draft is more popular every year. Years ago no one cared because of little to no national coverage. The players from the big schools might have been known but nothing like now. The coverage is so indepth they know if the player has a pimple on his butt. People care its just not the nfl thats a whole spectacle in its self.

In terms of timing, the NBA draft is competing for airwave time against the World Cup. Unfortunately, most of the media exposure highlights clips of winning goals, unruly soccer fans, and wild celebrations, pushing out any story lines and angles from the NBA.

In addition, I also feel that there is not so much hype or PR in which the NBA can give out to the media. High school phenoms like Kobe, LeBron, and Anthony seem to be lacking these days, so there really seems to be a lack of interest and intrigue going on in the media about next year's NBA.

I don't think many people are interested in the NBA draft because it is not hyped very much. Also, it seems like about half of the players drafted are international players and most fans have only heard of the players coming out of college.

The NBA has the lottery system and it seems too easy to fix. The worst team in the league should get the number one pick automatically. The NBA's worst team just gets the largest number of ping pong balls to put in the lottery. As a result, the worst team doesn't always get the best draft pick. Many think the whole thing is fixed after Patrick Ewing went to the Knicks at number one.

I would say that interest is diminished because this is perceived as a relatively weak draft, in terms of player talent. There is no consensus over who should be drafted first and most of the players are seen as having 'potential' rather than already having that star quality.

I know nothing about basketball, but maybe the FIFA World Cup is having a detrimental effect on NBA drafts (whatever they are).

Don't worry, you yanks will start following NBA drafts more after July 9th (the date of the World Cup final).

Incidentally, I am British.

People are starting to get tired of the stars getting all the calls and for me no white players. I'm not racist but I know a ton of white guys better than NBA stars right now. It's all about media and exposure.

It seems that way because of the advertisements, if they were exciting players like lebron and wade in the draft then they would advertise the draft out the wazoo, Big names mean big advertisement, big ads mean more viewers, more viewers mean more money and so on and so on.
