The national Geographic Channel aired a prepare final 3 hundred and sixty 5 days in June referred to as The technological expertise of Superman, around the same time Superman Returns grew to become into released on DVD. They utilized a number of Superman's skills...flight being certainly one of them, to genuine life, and that they defined that his skill to fly is thru magnetic propulsion, yet another occasion used is that he's able to generate gravitons interior of his physique. Bryan Singer additionally commented on how he used the physics of swimming as a manner of explaining how Superman flies.

The question should not be how he is able to fly but how he is able to navigate and stop the way he does? Afterall, is body is denser than it should be, hence, the bulletproof capability. It is supposed to be an effect of the yellow sun as opposed to the red sun of Krypton, but being able to defy gravity, in one since make his own gravity does not explain being able to stir and accelerate and stop the way he can. For that you have to look to aerodynamics and propulsion. The writer might have been thinking glider effect., but; that doesn't explain space flight. Best guess, electro magnetic propulsion, allows him to fly in te same way a bullet train operated only without a rail and using his own energy as the source of power, much like his xray vision. It's a guess.

Superman can defy Earth's gravity because of his dense molecular structure. The planet Krypton had much heavier gravity than Earth, so on Earth the gravity is less and his body isn't affected by it the same way Earth people are. He can thus, defy Earth's gravity and fly. Kryptons sun was red, Earths is yellow and Earth's yellow sun gives Superman his powers.

According to John Byrne, who relaunched Superman in the late1980's, Superman's flight ability is by "force of will". He wills himself to fly, so he can. This same "force of will" allows him to do things like pick up building by one corner and not have them crumble - as his will holds them together, or lift and fly with huge amounts of weight - as his "will" reduces the weight.

Don't know that it makes an sense - but it is (or was in the late 80's) the "official" explaination of his flight powers.

There has never been a solid explaination for this. He does not jump like the Hulk, he just flies. I do know that when he is exposed to Kryptonite or is drained of Solar energy from a Yellow Sun then he cannot fly (or is superstrong, or heat vision, etc).

Originally he used to just jump very far. Over the years his powers became more refined and more impressive. Basically he controls his immediate gravity (through graviton particles). This allows him much more control, like hovering, turning and stopping in mid air.

i really dont know. and as far as i know DC has never given an explanation. the guy who is able to answer this scientifically, or at least science-fictionally, deserves more than the 10 points

he can't... flight requires lift and something to propel. The orginal concept was that he could jump really far and high due to his increased strength. Flight was later added by other artists.
