Shipping is basic process of transporting goods and cargo. Shipping can more generally refer to the transport of freight ("shipments"), independent of the mode of transport.

Cargo is a subset of shipping and usually refers to large or bulk shipments.

Do you know where s.h.i.t. came from? It was placed as a label on dried manure in the cargo holds years ago. It meant "store high in transit" as the manure would explode if it got wet during shipping!
