I'm old enough to know my flaws. People who point them out to me are just irritating.

sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.

no need to retaliate. i am a 22 yr old single mother who does not have time to catch a case behind someone else's ignorance or my own.

as mentioned by someone else, if just one person says it, i would listen but not alter my lifestyle. if they said it in a rude way, i would not think about it because if they cared about this flaw and me, then they wouldn't try to hurt me.
it may not be a flaw at al coming from someone rudely, but something you have that they don't and they are hating.

if two people said it, and they don't know each other at all, then i would think about how i can make it less offensive to others. my flaw is a part of who i am, i will never be perfect.

From experience, if it's 1 person, I take it with a grain of salt - I've had people project their flaws onto me in the past.

But, if 2 or more unrelated people mention the same thing? Then I take a long hard look at myself, and if I agree, I correct my behavior.

As far as retaliating? Why? If I allow them to hurt me with their words, that's on me. I would avoid that person if they did indeed project though - I don't like E.L's and stay far far away from them!!!

When I was young I would be so hurt and retaliate, as I got older I started to think about what was said and often I knew they were right and tried hard to change it.

I will usually give them the benefit and think about what they said. Unless, they constantly observe flaws in people. Those people should just be ignored because nothing could satisfy what they consider perfection.

first retaliate and then think over it and try to Improve.
If the same flaw happens all the time, I try to change it.

Well for me, people find that all the time since a classm8 started a cult of about 4 people that watch my every move and make a roomer for it. So, I think if they are right, I don't try to make them wrong in my mind, but accept they think that way. So I stop to think.
