Why is it that people say they slept like a baby when babies wake up nearly every 2 hours?

Although a newborn wakes every two hours or so (just ask any new mother or father) that doesn't last very long. Before long they're sleeping all night long. Most babies will sleep through just about anything. You can pick them up, carry them around on your shoulders, move the into and out of car seats, even change their diapers.

So "sleep like a baby" means sleep so deeply that even a diaper change wouldn't wake you. There's an image to run with. :)

No both of my sons would sleep from 9 at night till 9 the next morning when they were only 4 weeks old. I wish I could always get 12 hours too and not wake up

Because once they start sleeping through the night (which was at 3 months for my daughter) they can sleep for a solid 10+ hours and wake up refreshed and ready to start the day.

Because once babies are asleep they sleep angelical. Peacefully. Babies for the most part do not experience bad dreams or stress. They just sleep!

I think it's because when they are asleep, they look incredibly at peace. That's the part people remember.
