i am in the process of re-modeling my whole kitchen , but my fiance and i are in a bind as to whether stainless steel or corian would be best to use??
he wants to go with the stainless steele countertops, cabints and appliances!!
i wamt something more homey, like creamy silestone or corian, accented with stainless steele cabinets and appliances.
BUT we just want something modern and durable.
i used to want white marble countertops until i read somewhee that they are easily stained etc....
thanks for any advice!!

I love the idea of stainless appliances and cabinets, maybe even a back splash, but to have the counter tops too it would look like an alien operating room.
The stainless counter tops will reflect light into your face, if you have any under the counter lighting or down lights.
I would not recommend corian - it scratches really easy. I would go with a silastone. Marble does stain easily, and has to be treated every year. Get a manufactured stone in a nice high-end neutral color.

You should suggest to your husband that stainless steel chairs, table, floors, wall, and ceiling will complete the ensemble !! Just kidding, of course. Seriously, my brother has a stainless steel kitchen table. Cold and anything but "homey".
We have just completed a re-model and went with stainless steel applicances, sink, and cabinet hardware (hinges and knobs). We re-did the countertops to a dark porcelean tile and epoxy grout. Probably at a fifth of the price of granite (and granite wannabees), this tile is incredibly durable. And the new epoxy grout (available at Lowes) never needs sealing. Maintenance free and super-durable.
Our cabinets were pretty well worn (circa 1990), but while we had the draws and doors down (to replace the hinges and knobs) we scrubbed and then rubbed in some rejuvenating oil ($6, Lowes) inot the wood and they look brand new.
Black and dark colors go well with stainless steel appliances.
Good luck.

Stainless shows every fingerprint, scratch, and mark. I wouldn't recommend using it for countertops. Plus it will make your kitchen feel very cold and unwelcoming--almost sterile. Go for a warm color in marble or corian to off set the rest of the stainless in the kitchen.

Unless Stainless is Remington's brother, its 'steel'...
But seriously, the best way to find something is to go to a store specialising in countertops and sit down with a book of ideas. There are many different types available, its good to veiw several kinds before getting married to one type.

I like stainless steel.... it is VERY durable and easy to clean... etc... however... it might be a bit cold for a residence.....if ya wanna do countertops, fine.... but do not go overboard with it, I think cabinets are too much...
I personally do not like the idea of granite and marble just because I haev known them to have cracks/chips if you are not carefull.... and it is very cold....

id say this, combine the two as much as possible. i like the look of stainless, and some nice stone flooring to offset it would be awesome. as far as your countertops, i would go with a nice subdued color to off set the shiney of the stainless

Granite is the popular material now but I have had Corian and the only bad thing is that it can stain.
