No, but once, because I just HAD to, I said the phrase, "Sorry, you can't get there from here", and calmly walked away.

I usually don't like directing anyone more than two blocks. If I start giving directions, I feel a sense of responsibility for the outcome of the asker's journey.
Ever notice the askers never writes down the directions, they just stand there nodding their heads say "uh-huh", followed by a few "yeahs" and you're supposed to believe that they will remember everything and get there even when the directions are correct.

I didn't send him in the opposite direction but I told him to take a right, when it should have been a left. I had observed him being very rude to someone for no reason, so I thought I'd give him a REAL reason to be in a pissy mood. lol

. . .only if they keep interrupting while I'm in the middle of explaining. . .
Do you ever get those people who have to repeat you after each sentence then miss some of the directions you gave them only to have to repeat yourself? For example, you tell them make a left at 3rd Street. Then they ask, "Okay, so that was a left at 3rd?" while you're explaining the next direction.

yes I get the urge. no I don't let my urges dictate my behaviour.
but if the directions are long and complicted I tell them the first part of the journey and give them some advice about who to ask for the next leg of journey directions

No, but I have gone to they eye doctor and when she says follow the light, I send my eyes in the opposite direction. Always good for a chuckle.

No, I think it's mean... But when I give directions, I usually send them the wrong way by accident anyway. Oops!

Yes. If they ask me a really stupid question (like, "Where's the mall?" when I can SEE the mall, geez). It's just too tempting not to.
If they are actually lost, I do try my hardest to point them to the right direction. Sometimes it doesn't work but hey, I tried.

Not usually. If they ask me nicely or they are clearly completely lost, I will answer honestly and as best I can.
Every now and then you get that one guy who asks for directions, and then he's too impatient to give you chance to think about it, and he starts screamng at you, "well, do you know or don't you??!!" -- and it's those guys to whom I say, of course I do -- and then I nicely steer them to the nearest police station or gay bar, whatever seems most appropriate. ;)

While that sounds tempting, I too, have to ask directions (I try not to make it a habit) and would not like that done to me. Besides it would reflect on my community as a whole.
