Why dont people put others before themselves?

This is a problem that has plagued man for ever. We are all out for self preservation, we must survive, or we die. But nowadays living for the most part is becoming a bit easier. So giving of ourselves to others should become easier and natural. Take the married couples tht don't want to have children. These are maybe the most selfish people of them all. They get married and want everything to be about them. Marriage is a gift from God. With this gift he tells us to go forth and mutiply. Think of all the poor souls that wish to have kids but can't. Then there are the ones that have kids only to neglect them or beat them, or worse. Then there are the children born into poverty, these may be the saddest. All of these poor children and to think there is a married couple with the ways and mreans to have a child that may grow to help thes unfortunate children. That is a very selfish thing to do. Now there are alot of other selfish people that wish only for self pleasure and indulgence. Look attheir smiling faces on the outside. But are they truley Happy? I am married with two kids, I never have more than 5 bucks in my pocket, my bills are usually late but eventually get paid. Everyone in my family comes before me. Most nights I am asleep before I hit the bed. Some days I even complain, But would I trade it all for bill gates cash???? NO WAY!!!!

Because they cant really help others if they cant help themselves, but there is a lot of people out there that put themselves at the bottom of their lists, they dont know how to put themselves first because they feel guilty if they do, I think people should put themselves first from time to time, but also be generous of others when they can.

Man is naturally greedy. This is why communism doesn't work. All people (well, most) strive for more for themselves because they want to have a better standard of living. Unfortunately, in order to raise a person's standard of living, sometimes he or she needs to step on the weak and think about themselves first.

Sometimes you have to. Even though you should put the feelings of others before your own (I assume you're talking about feelings and not physical safety) as often as you can, sometimes you have to take care of yourself. This is especially important if you have the role of mother/father/caretaker. It's impossible to take proper care o a child or other charge if you do not first take care of yourself.

Thats easy self preservation. It's a human trait, just one of those things that keeps us from being perfect. We will help our fellow man but not if it hurts us. How often have you seen someone do something without getting something even if it is just the feeling you did it for.
