First of all I am going to assume that you are young. Second that you could not get into a school you wanted because "some old fart" either got your funding or classes. I hope, for your sake, that your attitude changes. Because one day you will be that "old fart" someone is griping about. Besides, I did not realize that the human brain has an expiration date.

Why not, what do you care? A lot of jobs these "old farts" were doing no longer exist, they have to make a living just like anyone else. Hmmm are you afraid they will show you up in class? If they can function let them go to school.

Wait till you get to be in the golden years, but then maybe you will be too lazy to try and learn something new. Be thankful that there are older people out there still wanting to work , in most cases they are the reliable help. They do not call in sick on Monday mornings because they have a hangover and they work on week ends without being grumpy about it.

I feel that they should be enabled to learn whatever subject matter is being taught that they possess enough interest in to pursue. Age discrimination should not be tolerated. They usually lack the ability to physically move about as well as before and their ability to write may be affected by disease processes that affect their manual dexterity; however, if a teacher is willing to work with them and administer oral tests rather than written ones, they may be able to demonstrate skill and proficiency of the topic discussed or read. The "cut off" age is federally and state prohibited in keeping with the Title VII Civil Rights Act in which age discrimination is just as well protected as gender or ethnicity differences.
In other words, it is best not to integrate them into classrooms with younger children unless they are of college or university interest. Did you know that those who are over a particular specific age (65, I believe) who wish to attend college courses may do so without charge beyond a fee assessed by the college or university to address the administrative costs associated with attendance?
I enjoy people who are old enough not to be worried with work applications or their fashion sense. They are usually charming. Some have bleak tales from their youth that they will share with or without permission if a topic is in an area where it could 'tie in' or be segwed into the lecture. If they had not told it, we would not have had it to consider.
It is good to be respectful of those who have given up on being famous enough for their memoirs to be published and are willing to just 'tell ya' what all happened to them that influenced their decisions and ultimate life course. If you listen closely enough, you will hear the reason for their sharing it with you. It is because they care about you irregardless of whether you do for them or not. Accept it...and be blessed. Make fun of them...and you, too, will be mocked if not then ... then later.
Believe me, that I have witnessed those who did act disrespectfully who wound up with problems beyond ordinary.
Many 'old' people have been displaced due to the North American Free Trade Agreement. They are entitled to training for new careers.
Sit upwind...and keep your opinions as nice as possible. It could be your potential employers 'mother' that you just made a reference to...
