it is SELF EVIDENT that when a government becomes tyrannical, the citizenry MUST PULL IT DOWN (my paraphrase of certain ideas spelled out in our founding socuments).

Can a disarmed population pull down a militarized government?
If the citizens allow the ban of weapons, how can it pull down a government, should that need ever arise?

The individual citizens do not need to be armed in order to pull down a militarized government. Each state has its own guard that the governor could command and laws against guns do not apply to them. The second amendment was meant to prevent the growth of a tyrannical federal government and the state militias could certainly deal with that problem if it arose.

Moreover, if the government became tyrannical, do you really think that an armed population of citizens would actually be able to overthrow the government? The military would crush a citizen rebellion quickly and effectively.

According to the writings of Thomas Jefferson in the articles of the federation (which is the blueprint of the constitution) the only reason the second amendment exists is to insure that the people could have the power to overthrow a tyrannical government should the need ever arise again.

Unfortunately the purpose of second amendment has been undermined and rendered mute with gun control which started with the invention and subsequent banning of the automatic rifle.
