Yes...all of the above mentioned actors did indeed appear in the 1972 classic, "Sounder". In a bizarre set of cirumstances, Emerald played a mime white shoe shine boy named "Spit".
His most famous scene was when he was shining Carol Burnett's white shoes with imaginary polish, and the whole town was in hysterics. He then pretended to put a noose around her neck, and string her up. This was met by awkward silence, except for the sound of crickets in the background. Later in the film, when young "Spit" was hung by the townsfolk for continuously peering into a make believe window, his heartfelt tears, slowly rolling down his heavily pancaked face were so emotionally powerful that few left the theatre with dry eyes.
