How can I zap burglars? How do I make barb wire fence zap burglars and stray dogs from coming in my yard??

Fences on 3 sides but along back of property is cliff overlooking river. It has low picket fence with barb wire strung above it. Prowlers almost every nite, even when it rains!

After checking your local laws try looking for a Fence Charger at an agricultural supply. A low voltage charger for cattle fencing will probably stop at least the four legged criters
If prowlers are that big a problem, mabe you should consider razor ribbon fencing.

If you live in the U.S. you are probably looking at a long prison sentence, for using deadly force in a non-life-threatening situation.
This being said, if you isolate the barbed wire from any ground, hook the two hot leads of a 220 circuit to it, and connect the base leg to the remainder of the isolated fence, you should have quite a mess to clean-up the next morning, and a fuse to replace also.

Well, you can't legally put anything very powerful. You have to buy an electric fence (that is ready-made). Problem is that they don't hurt you too much, they just startle you. Put up a sign that says "Danger High Voltage". Maybe that will keep them away without actually electrifying your fence.

there are schematics for that kind of work in some electronics web pages the work isn't difficult but you better be sure is not illegal in your area, also I don't approve zapping poor stray dogs but zapping burglars is always cool

The first thing you need to do is check out any ordinances that would allow or disallow this action and then the commissioners in your town or community will tell you what you can or can't do and maybe where to find the services you need.
