Ultimately, it is up to JK Rowling what happens...she writes the books after all. I read that she may be interested in killing Harry off in order to prevent publication of less than worthy books years from now when she is no longer writing them...and she has had the last chapter of book seven written for years....before all the madness and success. I care about what happens in the books...and of course I don't think anyone wants to see Harry die...and I dont think she would let Voldemort survive and not Harry, because that would just be letting evil win. But the bottom line is that the story is not meant to go on after book seven..and we all need to deal with that.

I have read the news article ; Jk Rowling did not say that Harry Potter would be killed i do not think that she will do that. she stated that two characters she did not intend to die will die.....therefore we can assume that Voldemort will die. however two other characters will as well....Harry Potter is about good triumphing over evil....but she did not say she would kill Harry, even if she does it may be necessary for Harry to win his battle....but again that was never said by Ms. Rowling....so to assume this is the worst case scenario which isn't necessarily what is going to happen....don't put to much stock in the news.....As Rowling writes she changes things....so....jsut wait for the book, look forward to it like all the others, rejoice when it comes out read it 10 times, then reread them again then wait for the movies like everyone else....it is sad, but she has said a million times there will only be 7.

J.K. Rowling planned a seven book series from the start. The last chapter of her last book has already been completed and the characters are already dead.
If you think that starting some form of silly petition on a Yahoo! Answers page will save your fictional characters, you clearly have a lot of thinking to do. She didn't design this to be a 24 year long South American day-time soap opera.
Your "profecy" failed. Nice try, though.

From the strat J. K. Rowling planned for 7 books of Harry Potter and that's it!
She kills Harry in the final book so that no author after her will continue the Harry Potter Series. So, she tries to corner up the story to it's very end!

He should have been killed before the first book was written. This is one of the big pieces of literary trash that has been written. Note I said ONE.
I and many more caring parents who know the problems with these books will agree with me. If I went into all the reasons it would take a book. These books are very dangerous for the minds of young children and the hidden implications are in the thousands including mind control. This does not even touch on the religious implications.
I say good riddance to Harry Potter may he R.I. H. (Rest In Hell)!

I thought she only revealed that she was killing off two characters, not that Harry was going to die.
Besides, this is the last book. The story doesn't go on after this. If he dies, it only adds to the huge uproar about it.
I thought the prophecy meant that they'd both die.
And no one can make Rowling change her mind about it. If it upsets you that he may die, live with it. It's a story. I like the story just as much as the next person, but I'll live if Harry doesn't.

She may have been foreshadowing that Voldemort would defeat Harry. Harry knows the prophecy and realizes that one of them must die in order for the other to live. It could go either way. Also, with the strong connection between Harry and Voldemort, they could BOTH die. Then again, maybe the prophecy is wrong completely. Let's not spoil anything....wait until the book is out.

Everyone has to die. She is tired of writing these books. Writer's block is frustrating. She can't continue writing them forever. Besides, he is just a fictional character. I am pretty sure he will meet his demise by taking out Voldemort. What a noble sacrifice, and it is keeping with the prophecy. The Harry Potter books/movies have been great but everything must end.

1. You're an idiot. It's a bloody book, she is not murdering an actual person.
2. She would not reveal a secret like that, even if it was true. (Which I highly doubt.) Did she ever say, "Dumbledore will die"? Did she ever reveal that "Snape is the half-blood prince"? No.
So quit believing any little rumor you hear and get the hell over such a childish book!
Time to grow up, deary. Fictional characters can't live forever and, after the seventh book, Harry Potter's supposed to end anyway.

Her killing the character is her way of moving on. She's made enough money for many life times and wants to do something else. Killing the character is a good way of ensuring closure to her stories of Harry Potter. Other writers my pick up the theme after her but no one will be using Harry as a character.
