Supposedly Da Vinci got the information by virtue of being the Grand Master of the Priory of Sion--Guardians of the secret of Christ's Bloodline.
Dan Brown didn't invent it, and there has been a lot of research that is very intriguing and plausible.
Start with Holy Blood and the Holy Grail, but also read The Hiram Key, The Second Messiah, The Head of God, The Tomb of Good, Rex Deus, The Messianic Legacy, The Temple and the Lodge, and the Dead Sea Scrolls Deception, among others.
The "anti-Da Vinci Code" crowd are hoping that no-one moves beyond the novel (which can be easily dismissed as fiction or unproven) into works backed up with research and evidence.

Understand that what Dan Brown wrote was a work of fiction. There was a book printed already that puts forth the same theory of Christ being married. Dan Brown just used historical gray areas to spin a good yarn. The truth is, the bible has been rewritten, translated, and been at the mercy of so many interpreters that we are no longer able to draw 100% concrete evidence from it. We need other things like the dead sea scrolls and the like.
Was Christ married or not? What difference does it make if he was? Couldn't he be married and be a miracle worker?

He didn't concot the ideas behind it, people hve been saying that Mary Magdalene and Jesus were married for centuries. He didn't just think up the idea, the theory has been out there, as well as references to the Illuminati, Knights Templar, the Masons. One of the theories of the orgination of the Tarot was that it told the story of their child and that's why it's used in divination. There's also a church in France where supposedly Mary Magdalene helped build up, concerting the Gauls and having her child there.
I frankly couldn't care less. No one can know, and the v. Christian people can't say it contradicts the Bible becuse no where in the Bible does it say that Jesus died a virgin. The old testament "sons of god" married "daughters of man" and had children by them. What's one more?

You have to believe the christian faith is real...to not like the movie..he took the unproven religion and bent some of what is believed such as mary was a hooker (true) but they added that her and jesus were spouses..but The movie was stupid because if jesus had a son means he was a normal nonspecial man but if god had a son oh he's such a f***ing saint to give him to the earth... But those witch hunting were just because everyone believed in witches not cause of the church and there is believed to be a bloodline but no one knows if it was with mary. And there is no signs on any paintings

Dan Brown has crafted what is known as a "roman de clef"- fiction based on historical events and personalities. I wonder if in his next novel he dare defame and ridicule the Prophet Mohammed?
