In the 80's, there was a town (I want to say in indiana, but I am not sure) that outlawed gun ownership completely. About 30 miles away, there was another town that, in reaction, made it mandatory for everyone that was legaly allowed to own a gun, to own and carry a gun.
The first town had it's crime shoot through the roof and the second town had it's crime rate drop to the lowest crime in our country!

In addition to the opening questions, can this practical evedence possibly be shown that gun control works? ( I think that the criminals will never turn in their guns, ESPECIALLY if they know that everyone else in town is disarming)

There was Morton Grove, IL, a Chicago suburb which outlawed handguns. Kennesaw, GA passed an ordinance requiring gun ownership. Gun control ONLY works on the law abiding anyway!

What really needs to be done is to outlaw all guns, and then make it a mandatory charge of attempted manslaughter for anyone found with a gun.

First police would be the only people allowed with guns and then they would be phased out as well. The army would always have guns to back up any situation that might occur.

Hunting could still be allowed. If someone wished to hunt they could go to a wildlife office checkout a gun and hunt in a local area.

In America we have the right to life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness. Not the right to kill people. Instead of guns what about tazers.

My biggest problem with arming everyone is it takes away from a persons due process. There is no judge or jury, just one executioner. To me the right to due process is more important than the right to bear arms.

There is a great book on the subject; I don't recall the title but I think its "More Guns Less Crime" but I could be off a little on the title. The thing about it that the anti gun lobby hates is the academic that wrote it - started he research off to prove the opposite and was honest enough to publish his real findings. Great book

Without real statistics, I wouldn't really have an opinion on this, but violence is violence, with or without guns. There are other ways of killing besides shooting. And just because you own a gun doesn't make you a killer.

Well criminals would think twice knowing that they could be shot dead for breaking and entering, car jacking, robbery, or rape by a potential victim.
