I found a small brownish-coloured bulbous growth on the skin around my genitals. I went to the doctor who said that its probably a wart. As genital warts is sexually transmitted, and i am a virgin, how can this be possible? Is there anything else it can be? thank you.

I didn't ask my doctor because he was speaking French.....(am stuck in France for 6 wks for uni)...and I had trouble understanding. According to the net, genital warts is passed on by skin-to-skin contact only, so the toilet seat theory sounds unlikely. And if a mole has appeared - isn't that bad???? He DID say it wasn't serious...

Yes, genital warts are a sexually transmitted infection, but you can have common viral warts anywhere on your body. You've just been unlucky enough to have one down there. Do you have warts on your hands? If so, you could have spread them while touching down there.
The doctor did NOT say it was a case of genital warts, he just said it was probably a wart. He didn't say it was sexually transmitted. It's most likely just a normal viral wart which happened to show up in an unfortunate area. You can have them frozen off or you can get a topical liquid which you paint onto them which gets rid of them, but you're probably best just to leave it until you're back home and you can talk to your own doctor about the best treatment.

OMG!!! That's horrible!! Think hard... it could have been transmitted like this.. : once upon a time, you were playing with your friends or something close like that... anyways, one of your friends touches your clothes, and that friend has...warts. You don't know, because that friend is to ashamed to tell you. So, you don't notice that the person with warts touched the clothing and your clothe touch it in the same spot. Later, your clothing touch somethings else and passes on into the thing! Hmmm... that didn't sound reasonable, but it did take a long time to plan it out and type it..!

Could it not just be a mole? You can get melanin based growths anywhere on the body which are perfectly safe & normal. You can also get warts without sexual contact (its part of the Herpes simplex virus which can be caught on the hands, eyes or face). If it is a wart then why did you not discuss this with the doctor (i.e. how it could have occurred & potential treatment)??

If you are sexually active, having sex only with a partner who doesn't have HPV and only has sex with you will lower your risk of getting genital warts.
I guess this means what you have cannot be genital warts.

You can get a wart anywhere on your body. The warts you get from sexually transmitted diseases are different. Sometimes you get bumps from the hair too. I got freaked out once and thought I had herpes or something...it was just a hair bump. Whew!

Well...warts, as i can understand have a viral cause, Human Papilloma Virus. And usually grow typically on hands and feet. So, you could just have touched your genital with your infected hands!
I knew a nurse that contaminated a few people just because she used to blow to the syringes, in order to warm them, before applying them to the patient!

It could just a plain, ordinary wart that had the bad taste to show up in that location and scare the bejeepers out of you. Or it could be a mole.

Just visit another doctor (one that speaks a language u understand very well) and discuss the virginity part with him and let him explain how else u can catch it.
It's probably nutin serious if French man says so.

genital warts, can be transmitted also like if somebody has that and you go to the same bathroom, and the virus is there, not just sexually, it happened to me too, and i had to have surgery.
is not going to be pretty.
