Generally speaking, more people back out of a parking spot rather than park backward and drive out.

The parking answer you are getting can be an obvious reason.
But it might have done that for some automatic trnsmissions having an overdrive option along with the drive option...
It goes like Parking, Reverse, Drive, Overdrive 2, Overdrive 1....
For that you have to go to the Overdrive 1 first, when you get some speed switch on to the Overdrive 2, and then finally switch to the Drive to continue your drive.........
This special overdrive option was provided in some automatic transmissions for cars that need some extra power to climb some steep hills or get a quicker pick up in some cases....
You can't drive on the overdrive too long as they consume a lot of petrol or gas whatever you use. The overdrive is meant just for pickup....................
This can be of help in the street racing also... To take the lead in the beginning of the race......!!!
Hope this will answer you......

Because you normally park head-in to a parking space, so you normally have to put the car in reverse before Drive. It;s just the more frequent series of events.

because normally when you are parked, you go reverse first, to get out of the parking spot. if it was the other way, there would be more parking lot accidents

Because most parking is head-in parking...so the first thing one needs to do is to back of the the parking space.

It has to do with the trans, you gear the lower gear in the front of the trans and work toward the higher gear( the larger section of the trans). so dont try to re-invent the wheel.
