Dont take a blind bit of notice of what the doctor says. This happened to me 5 or 6 tests came back positive the docs came back negative the negative result is now three years old and cheeky. If they wont do a blood test bring your tests into the doctors and tell him/her you want to go to the hospital for either a scan or a blood test. Refuse to move from your seat until they do this. I was so pissed off when my doctor told me no i wasnt and i bloody well was. if i would of listened to him imagine what would of happened. Its not only that sweet the early stages of pregnancy are vital so hence my words glue yourself to that bloody seat until he/her scans you or takes blood. Good Luck sweet. xxxx

Here in the US, the doctors usually give the same kind of test that we get from the store. Blood tests are usually only used in extreme cases, such as if someone is needing major surgery or has cancer, etc.

Sometimes pregnancy tests will show a negative if under 6 weeks of pregnancy. If it's been beyond 6 weeks - ask for a confirmation of pregnancy by ultrasound, or a retest. If you've had more than one positive pregnancy test, I would ask your doctor again.

Personally, I would get a new doctor. Or at least a second opinion.

My doctor didn't even do me a pregnancy test as he said the home testing kits were reliable enough for him, but you have had mixed results. My advice is to wait a week and then go back. Make him give you another test or begin to investigate what is causing your late period. In the mean time try this:
"The amount of hCG or pregnancy hormone in your urine increases with time. So, the earlier after a missed period you take the test the harder it is to spot the hCG. If you wait one week after a missed period to test, you are more apt to have an accurate result. Also, testing your urine first thing in the morning may boost the accuracy."

Hi there, I think you should go back to your doctor and demand a second opinion. I live in the UK and this same issue happened to a friend of mine... her experience is that she was 4 weeks over due her period date, and like you had a mixture of positive and negative tests.... the doctor didn't take much notice and said that she wasn't pregnant... she went on three weeks later to be admitted into hospital with an ectopic pregnancy.

You pay your taxes and National Insurance, so demand a second opinion and a blood test to determine whether your pregnant or not and then go on to determine why you have stopped your periods.

I also think you could be pregnant.
It happened to me during my pregnancy I had my periods which only lasted for a day I got worried and went to see my doctor for a pregnancy test the results come out negative, when, I was actually pregnant. So my advice to you is that wait for a while and then go and see your doctor again for a pregnancy test

My friend had + pregnancy test but it took 3 doctors tests to get a + result.
False positves are also possible. In fact they are more common than you would think.Check out peeonastick.com.
I had a positive last month that turned out to be an evaporation line.
Also there is such a thing as a chemical pregnancy where the body produces the pregnancy hormone without there being an actual pregnancy.

My doctor won't do a clinical test either, using the same theory as mentioned before, ie the home tests are so accurate that if you get a positive it's good enough for her.

You can get a false negative reading but NEVER a false positive one. I'd say you're pregnant.

Congratulations!

It could just be that was not enough of the "pregnancy hormone" in your system for the doctors test to pick it up. You could have had a higher level when you tested.

I had this experience before (overdue 1 month), but I wasn't pregnant. Anyway, try another doctor.

Give it a few more days and try it again. If you are stressing about whether you are pregnant or not can also delay your period.
