General Augusto José Ramón Pinochet Ugarte[1] (born November 25, 1915) was head of the military dictatorship that ruled Chile from 1973 to 1990. He came to power in a violent coup that deposed Salvador Allende, a Marxist surgeon who had become the first Socialist to be elected President of Chile. The coup ended a period of strained relations between the United States (which had actively sought Allende's removal) and the South American country, and allowed Pinochet to implement profound neoliberal economic reforms and, at the same time, to commit extensive human rights violations, both at home and abroad, and to pursue his own personal enrichment.

Chile'. He was one of the most tyrannical dictators to ever rule a country. He has been convicted of crimes against humanity. He was installed as a military dictator after a CIA coup overthrew the duly and democratically elected leader, Salvador Allende. Allende's great crime was that he wanted to nationalize the copper industry in Chile'. America has and had vested vital interests in that segment of Chile's enconomy.

Though I was tempted to say Argentina, I remember reading about Augusto Pinochet's violent military coup in Chile in 1973 that overthrew president Salvador Allende (who was soon found dead). Pinochet was in power in Chile from 1973 to 1990.
So...it was in Chile.
