I'm 29 and have 4 older siblings - aged 39, 45, 46 and 49. When I was younger I wished I were an only child but that was because of the age gaps. I couldn't have a normal adult relationship with my siblings until I was in my twenties. Now I enjoy the company, humor and daily chats with family.
Whereas I was once only close with my sister who is now 39 (she was the only one who lived at home at the time I can remember!), I am now also close with my other sister who is 46, and I work for my brother (who will be 50 this year, and a few months later I will be 30!!)
Having even just one sibling is sometimes better than having just a friend - you can confide in them all you want or you can have it out with them, but no matter what you will still be related in the morning! I've lost good friends in the past but siblings always remain.
I think people treat their siblings different, that is we're not always afraid to tell them if their clothes look stupid or they need a haircut. It's just something that your friends wouldn't do out of respect for feelings, whereas in tight-knit familes respect often goes out the window and is replaced with truth.
Thanks to my siblings and their spouses I have also been blessed with 3 nieces and 2 nephews. Thank God they didn't have any more than that - I sure couldn't afford more than that!

I have a sister that is 13 months to the day younger than me..I love it.
I don't know what I would do without her. I think if I were an only child I would be totally weird and not social, she's my best friend, and even though we fight, I don't think I can imagine a life without her.

I enjoy it. Me and my old (autistic) brother fight alot. But then at the end of the day I look back at all the good times we have had. My brother is a little different than other people because he is autistic but I love my bro.

I have a half sister that doesn't really know me/care about me, so I was brought up as an only child. Knowing that you have a sister that doesn't really care isnt fun, and I wish we were closer.

When i was young i wanted to be an only child, but having an older brother comes in handy, someone to stick up for you and to look out for my well being.

I was supposed to be an only child so my brother was a bit of a surprise. I'm glad he's around though. Who else would I harass? ;)
