How do you convert goobilygook from old "works" to readable file?

Changed computer and find that some of the documents saved from this machine appear as "goobilygook" when trying to open in any document files - works, word, notepad etc.

Word should be able to do it if it uses the right import filter. It should be on the installer disc.
