Estrogen
It's considered the female hormone, but males have it too. It works like this: Both males and females have both testosterone and estrogen. Males just have a lot more testosterone than estrogen. Females are the opposite, and have a lot more estrogen than testosterone. Without testosterone, it would be difficult to build muscletone.

Your question is not as simple as it seems.
There are two MAIN hormones which control sexual characteristics in a male and female (ie. what makes a person male or female) TESTOSTERONE for male; OESTROGEN for female.

The DOMINANT (or main) hormone controlling male characteristics ( testicles, sperm production, development of a penis etc) is TESTOSTERONE. However, males also have oesrogen in their bodies, but the amount of testosterone is higher than the amount of oestrogen thus causing testicle and penile growth and sperm production.

The DOMINANT (or main) hormone controlling female characterisitics (breast development, menstruation etc) is OESTROGEN. However, females also have testosterone in their bodies, but the amount of oestrogen is higher than the amount of testosterone thus causing breast development.

There is a second main hormone in females which controls menstruation. It is called PROGESTERONE.

So both males and females have both TESTOSTERONE and OESTROGEN in their bodies. Its the amount of each that determines your sexual characterisitics. These amounts are determined by your genes.

Estrogen, yet the female also contains a little amount of testosterone(that's why some girls are very hairy, maybe too much testosterone levels) and progesterone.

Women have oestrogen (with an O if you're in the UK) & progesterone - these both are what controls the menstrual cycle (and pregnancy). Women also have some testosterone (which is why some women are hairier than others!)...

You are probably thinking of estrogen, although in fact both males and females possess both hormones in some measure.
