Yes I think it could be and should be enlarged. You could add one more wild-card team to each league. This would ensure that the top seed of the league was the only team that received a bye week. This would also allow for each division winner to play against a wild-card team as opposed to two wild-card teams playing. Plus it might be the only chance the Cowboys have of getting into the playoffs. Hail to the Redskins.

First off, the NBA does the divisions as well. You win the division you are guaranteed a top spot.
But in regards to your question, whats the point then of busting it all year long to get a good record if you can just sneak in at 8-8, or even worse at 7-9? Why go 13-3 if you dont need it to get into the playoffs? You can conserve your teams energy, save your best players, and unleash it all in the playoffs. The way the playoffs are set up is to reward the teams that do the best and get the two best teams into the Super Bowl. If you expand it and make it easier for teams to get in, then you are making it harder for the best teams to get there, When you do that, you reduce the appeal of the Super Bowl. Suddenly its like the Medium Bowl. Two mediocre teams playing instead of the two best teams.

In every major sports league the team that wins their division automatically makes the playoffs, and gets one of the top seeds regardless of their record. I think it should be kept that way too because there needs to be some reward for a division title. Also, I think the NFL playoff system is just fine. Remember that NFL teams can only play once per week and if the number of teams that made the playoffs were expanded, the season would drag on too long and increase the chances of injuries.

First of all...there are 32 teams in the NFL.
The playoffs are for the best teams in the league. It's not a means to reward a mediocre team that one as many games as it lost. There's no need to expand the playoffs right now. It is perfect the way it is.
The NFL is the only major sports association that is currently doing everything right. There haven't been any strikes or lockouts in years, they don't vote on who should be the champions...they have a system that makes sure the most deserving teams play each other for it, they don't have any widespread steroids controversies because they have a strict drug policy, and they don't have any players going into the stands and starting fights with players.

Unlike other sports, football is a whole lot more physically demanding. If the playoffs were expanded, no team would be at it's strongest for the superbowl. Besides, the teams already bust their butts all year just to make it to the playoffs. And about division leaders, it is only right that the division champion get an automatic bid into the playoffs. And sure some division are stronger than others, but that just varys throughout the years.

I am going to have to agree with the majority of the above. The NFL is perfect. I don't want just some so-so team in the play-offs. I want good quality teams in the playoffs. I think the NBA and the NHL have it wrong. They are sending to many teams to the playoffs. It makes it become less honorable and makes it boring especially with 7 game series. Anyways, the NFL is right in line with everything. The MLB might not have enough play-off spots, but the NFL is perfect.

No it shouldn't for the exact reason why you stated. 12 out of 32 teams make the playoffs ... less than half .. If you expand it even 4, yes there would be a couple of 9-7 teams that make it, but there would also be some 7-9 and 6-10 teams that make it

Here's what I think, the NFL postseason is perfect. 12 spots, you win or you go home. To win the super bowl you have to want it every game. So much better than MLB, NHL, & NBA. Those sports go on way too long 7 game series, 5 game series. All three of those other sports should be the same as NFL, win or you go home, not "hey we can lose a few games in the postseason and still win a championship, so if we don't win no big deal". Perfect example of proper postseaon NCAA Basketball 64 teams, one loss and you're done.

If they added four more teams - that would be S W E E T -
No team gets a bye
A team that screwed things up early and gets hot in the last part of the season will have a better chance to squeeze in.
I am still in favor of division champs getting the lock because in any given season, certain division races simply turn out to be more competitive than others.
Bonus - - Maybe we'll get one extra weekend of football!

No. I would like the Super Bowl to have at least 3 healthy, energized players per team.
