And if you are tattooed or pierced, explain to others why you did.
And if you are against it, explain to others why you are.

It's partly about self expression and it's partly about a sort of rite of passage, if you will. Getting tattooed to me is like a meditation. I mean, you have to breathe and focus to get past any pain issues...It's hard to explain exactly until you actually get one. I personally have six tatoos and one tongue piercing. I think that's all I get as far as piercings, but tattoos, they are wonderful...I'm addicted!!

Would I ever get tattooed or pierced?

Definitely not. Particularly today. Presently, society generally is experience the cummulative effects of what it propounded over the last century.

It use to be it took a hundred years for an idea to catch on. The bombardment in just a year or two is staggering.

If you're not aware of it. Most people aren't.

You tend to go along with the current. Once you realize you're a person, the only thing that should go with the current is either rivers, oceas, seas, .... and sewers. ( Provided they don't back up. )

I have to wait another month to get tattooed, but I am already pierced a lot.
I have four in each ear
One of my eyebrows
My lip
A corset piercing on my back, 24, on my back total
Corset lacing up my arms
Nipples are both pierced
And I just got my belly button pierced. I love them all!!

Andycapp, that isn't true. In some cases, tattoos were the signs of warriors, and leaders.

I have my belly pierced. I did it because of a conversation my husband and I had one day. I don't' mean anything by what I am fixing to say so don't' anyone take it the wrong way. We were on the way to town one day and saw this sort of big girl walking on the side of the road with a tank top on that was exposing her stomach. I noticed she had a belly ring. So that started up a question that I asked my hubby. I asked him if you like them. He kind of didn't say much. So i took that as he was interested in them. So I figured I would get mine done so he would be looking at mine instead of someone elses.

I have my belly button and labret pierced, and I have 1 tat, lower back, frog on a lily pad. I did the belly button because I always wanted it done, and it's beautiful. The other one is because once you get something pierced other than your ears, you get an addiction, you need pain, and it's a good pain. Tat? I love art and what other way of showing it off then on your body, except for when people cover their entire body in it. That's ugly. If you have one on your shoulder, lower back, ankle whatever, it's nice, but all over your arms are ugly.

A tattoo is too permanent. As I get older, my views may change. I would be stuck with whatever I thought was attractive at age 20. And getting a tattoo removed can be costly and disfiguring.

3 tattoos, and lots of piercings. (nose, tongue, belly button, 7 per ear)
I was 18 & 19 when I received all 3 of my tattoos. Of course, NOW, I would opt for different images, but they tell a story.
The piercings were for myself too.....I refused to even show people my tongue ring when they would ask. I was NEVER the one sticking it out in public and playing with it between my teeth. UCK!

I have two tats. One is of the Tazmanian Devil. I got that one as I have very fond memories of watchging cartoons with my siblings. The second tat is Superman. It is about 11 inches long and graces my right calve. I own a comic book store and am a fan of Superman. Why did I get them? Because I like the characters and wanted to let that be known to all.

Besides, they look cool!!

I have had my ears pierced. I am 54 and my college age daughters made me an appointment at the tat parlor for mothers day and suprised me after breakfast. I am glad I had it done but almost fainted when I saw the needle. Thinking about another one.
