Should I get a new tortoise?

I had 2 russian tortoises and a coulple days ago I took them outside and somehow they got out of their cage. well one got hit by a car and I don't know about the other : ( I'm really sad but I don't know if I should get another tortoise.

First, take a few days to mourn and get over things.

Clean up the old enclosure- disinfect it well. Examine their cares and housing- especially the outdoors enclosure. There is almost always something that can be done better, or that you would have changed if you could have. Make notes of any changes that should be made and get an idea of what they will cost. Cover the old enclosure if necessary to keep it clean.

Rest, think, and get over the emotional stuff.

At some point, you'll either feel like you want more, or like you want to move on to other things. Either is OK- you can always try tortoises again.

Sometimes, circumstances control these things- tortoises are not always available or in our budget, so fate itself may step in.

I love tortoises...I would get another one, but you should make sure you are perpared to have another one and that you really want one before you do. Don't forget that they will probably live a long time so make sure you are willing to make that commitment again.

well if you live in california then you can get a california desert tortoise. they are endangered and in need of homes in rescues . the adoption is free and you will need to get a permit for them and the permit is free . i have a cali. desert tortoise and they are great . they are easier to care for compared to most tortoises and they get much bigger to if you are interested in one email me and i can help you find one
