When the flies start to follow you around, and people try to avoid being in the same room with you. When paint begins to peel off the walls when you walk by. When limburger cheese becomes jealous. When skunks follow you around and do a mating dance, and stray dogs don't want to sniff your body parts. That's when you should take a bath.
If the water is so expensive, then disconnect your internet connection that should save money, and take a bath!

It is going to depend on where you live; not just the climate but the culture. In America, most people shower everyday, but some studies I have read said it it overdries the skin and taking shower or bath every other day is best. Now that might be ok if you live in the north or in the winter, but in the south or in the summer it could pose some social issue problems.
Some places in Europe people bath every other day; when I was in Germany the family I stayed with bathed only every other day and thought it odd that I wanted to take a bath every day.
When I was in college, there were people from Africa that bathed one a week or less and that was normal for their culture and if you are from that culture, people are used to it, but if you are not, it can be overwhelming and socially devistating to both parties.
Goes back to that "when in Rome, do as the Roman's" addage, but don't go to the extreme in bathing or not bathing, depending on the norms of culture you are in.

Sponge baths use much less water than soaking in a tub or taking a shower.
You could easily take a sponge every day and take a shower or bath once or twice a week to save water.

Well back in the day when I was little we use to take quick showers my mom called it a "Texas bath". I forgot why we did it, maybe she was saving too. Anyway we would stand in the tub fill up a bucket and wet ourselves down, lather up, fill the bucket back up again and rinse off. That should save you some water. Now that I think of it, it was in the summer when it was to hot to run bath water, and our shower did not work at the time.

To maintain your health, it is reccomended that you take at least one shower a day. If you think water is expensive, then don't take a bath, take a shower. It uses less water.
Do it like the navy sailors, because water is limited they sometimes only take showers with at least 3 to four gallons of water. Go in the shower, wet yourself, shampoo, soap and rinse, done in 4 minutes.
This should cut your water expenditure.
