I know how to change them, but I want to be able to change them to an icon other than the ones that are already available. Is there a way I can go online and find more icons or can I even use images I have on my computer and somehow 'convert' them? If this is the case, how would I go about doing this?

Icons are bitmaps with dimensions of 32x32 or 48x48.
So logically if you have a bitmap (*.bmp) file, just rename it as *.ico and you can then put it as an icon for anything you want.

Try it

Just go into control panel, click display, click the desktop tab, click the customize desktop button, click an icon you want to change, click Change Icon, Browse, change the filetype to all files, and then find your graphic.
