My son is 13, gets calls from girls all the time, has been dubbed most handsome in his class every year - but would rather concentrate on school work and just being "a boy." I am sooo thankful.
Granted, he has a few girls that he talks to every now and then. But they've known each other their whole lives, and are very happy just being friends. He does have one friend who has a girlfriend, and they actually stick out as being weird. I would also like to add that my kids go to a public school, not a private school.
My best friend's niece is 13, and is completely boy crazy. She'll date a boy, but then they break up just to be friends again. I think it's more of a social thing, but one can definitely tell that she doesn't comprehend the full meaning of "dating."
I personally think 13 or younger is too young. 15 is a better number.

It all depends on what kind of kissing. If it is a quick peck or something then JR High isn't a bad age. But if you are getting into a more intimate kiss that could lead to more then I would say not until you are old enough to be raising a child. The fact is if you are getting hot and heavy with a guy and the kissing is getting more and more intense then you will sooner or later lead to sex. I was raised that unless you were ready to give up everything else to raise a child then you shouldn't be having sex!!!

I think maybe 13 for kissing, but just a peck then, not making out or anything. But I think 13 is too young to go on dates. So I'm kind of conflicted.
Someone said that young children don't have crushes, and I think they do, because I definetly did, and maybe it's a truer love than anything we have when we are ruined and old.

I was 12 when I had my first boyfriend (7th grade) ... we were 'together' for 6 months, I think. We held hands sometimes and kissed 3 times (without tongue). It was a really innocent relationship that was totally appropriate. I am now 21 and I don't think that being that age 'messed me up' or anything.
It depends on the person, really.

My mother always told me that I could date when I became 14. Thats what I tell my children that. They can date at 14, because then you will be mature enough to make smart decisions. School needs to be number one, and then boys last.
