And is it possible that the current government ALLOWS him to continue in a way to drum up patriotism as a reaction to his messages of hate?

Not life, but "(B) appear to be intended (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population, (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion".

I don't like the Patriot Act, but as long as it's in place, let's put it to good use.

I think you're a bit behind the times. Bush has signed into law a piece of legislation barring protests at military funerals.

The new law bars protests within 300 feet of the entrance of a national cemetery and within 150 feet of a road into the cemetery. This restriction applies an hour before until an hour after a funeral. Those violating the act would face up to a $100,000 fine and up to a year in prison.

This was directed at Fred Phelps and his band of nutjobs, no doubt.

No.

First they would like it, and second, the fact that US freedoms protect even this group of scum sucking leeches shows how committed the US is to freedom, and not just the freedom of the popular views, or those like minded with the rest of us.
