I have been having a problem with my tomatoes this year. I have them in large pots outside, and the bottom of most of them are black and rotting. they look so good on the top half but just as they are beginning to ripen, they start to rot. What can I do to help prevent and stop this from happening. I have tried a spray you get at wal mart that is supposed to stop it and it didn't help at all. Please help me, all my tomatoes are going bad on the vine.
Thanks

It could be Blosson End Rot,if it is then your plants are not getting enough calcium. You can get a spray that will give calcium to your plants but the ones with black on the bottoms are no good but it will help the ones that havent got it yet. I had it and used it and my plants are good now but I also added egg shells, coffee grounds, and ashes to the plants. Pick off the black bottom ones so they dont take any more food from the plant. Good Luck.

My tomatoes have the same thing going on. It is the summer heat and humidity which is rotting them. Possibly it is also because the tomatoes that touch the soil in the pot rot. Mine are in the ground and they used to be fine until last month then they started turning black. This did not happen before. Those that touch the ground automatically rot. Also it could also be that the plants are old. This only happend to ours that were at least two years old and have given fruit for both years plenty. These were the plants that also gave the biggest and most fruit. So I think that they just got old.
You need to replace them. That is what I did. Tomatoe plants that are replaced every year don't rot or turn black.

I consider the above answer yet i take advantage of bone meal unfold around the backside of the plant. I additionally mixture all my egg shells from the eggs that I even have eaten into my compost pile, and then mixture that into the soil once I commence my backyard on the commencing up of the season. on the commencing up of the 12 months I do a soil attempt with a kit i purchase from the backyard center to confirm my soil is acid adequate for what i'm growing to be. Too extreme of a PH can shop the vegetation from soaking up the various minerals they choose from the soil.
