Do a search on Earth911 for your local recycling services. The site covers those types of services. You may also want to check out the Appliance Recycling Centers of America. If they have a center in your area they can provide that service for you.
One thing to keep in mind with municipal/county collections is that they may require certification that the Freon has been removed from your refrigerator. If that's the case you'll need to look for a reclaimer in your local phone book. Other places make this a condition of their hauling company so you'll need to check with your jurisdiction.
Hope this helps.

Out in Plano, all we have to do is roll it out to the alley. The city comes by once a month and picks up large items for recycling. But it might not have to stay out there that long. The alley rats will probably take off with it LONG before the city gets out there.

I called my power company and asked if they give rebates for old, large appliances. They gave me $30 off my next power bill and they picked it up from the curb for me.
If your power company doesn't do that (too bad), then just call ahead to your garbage pick-up and let them know you have a large item to throw out.

Call your garbage company. Usually from time to time they have a free pick up of big items like that.
