1982 U. of California v. Stanford, with the great John Elway.

Cal scores late, taking a one point lead. They kick off to Stanford, who starts their possession inside their own twenty. Elway drives Stanford to a go-ahead field goal with less than 10 seconds to play, completing 2 huge fourth down passes.

Stanford kicks off to Cal with virtually no time on the clock. Cal players lateral the ball back and forth 5 or 6 times, keeping it alive. Last Cal man to have the ball runs THROUGH THE STANFORD MARCHING BAND into the end zone for the winning score, bowling over a trombone player at the goal line.

Most amazing thing I've ever seen in any game.

September 28, 1972.... "The Goal" Game 8 of the Summit Series, Canada vs. The USSR

Yvan Cournoyer intercepted a Soviet clearing attempt and fired a cross ice pass to a streaking Paul Henderson, who had called off the line's usual left winger Peter Mahovlich in order to get on the ice.

The pass was behind Henderson. No. 19 was also tripped up on the play and went crashing into the end boards behind the Soviet defenders.

Fortunately for Canada, Phil Esposito was following up on the play. He was dead tired and probably should have gone to the bench, but he was determined to be out there until the end of the game.

Espo poked the puck towards Tretiak for an easy save, but by this time Henderson had gotten back on his feet and gained the rebound. Henderson shovelled the puck towards the goal line. Tretiak made yet another save, but left another rebound, too. Henderson, unchecked by any Soviet player, was able to flip the final rebound over a sprawled-out Tretiak.

i'm satisfied. don't be bitter, Eric. BQ: If human beings gained the Pk, you does no longer say that is "idiotic." i'm nevertheless waiting for a bitter fan to go back right here and say Japan some-how cheated, because that is inevitable. edit: precisely, Peaches. Why do not human beings provide Japan credit for coming back, instead of vilifying united states for 'choking?' edit: Eric, for someone who claims "no longer to care," you have become fairly fired up over this, bro. edit: Eric, you look to be a "1/2-glass empty" form of guy in that you look at issues from a detrimental point of view. to illustrate, even as a crew comes back from a tremendous deficit, are you the form that asserts it turned right into a chokejob on behalf of the dropping crew or it turned right into a staggering comeback on behalf of the triumphing crew? Do you observe what i'm attempting to say? A concrete celebration might want to be the Redsox vs. Yankees ALCS, interior of which the Sox got here back from a three-0 deficit. might want to you assert the Yankees choked that one, or did the Redsox make a tremendous comeback? I, for my area, am a pitcher-1/2 finished guy, so I gave credit to Boston for coming back, instead of declaring the Yankees choked.
