I can't tell you how many Retics. I am offered daily from people who are tired of being bitten, afraid to clean, feed, tend or even go near the cages in some cases. If you don't know where to get one my bet is you are not ready for this kind of snake. Please... Please... Please.... reconsider for the health of Retics everywhere. There are many impressive snakes that you would not only enjoy but will help you thrive as a reptile enthusiast. A good starter snake can teach you allot about the basics.Besides retics are very common and usually unmanageable. I would urge you to start with something more along the lines of a bull snake or pine snake there are some really impressive color patterns out there that are quite rare as well as the fact that they can become a quite impressive size. Not to mention they tend to have a very strong, imposing, inquisitive nature but are not typically highly aggressive. They are fairly easy to maintain and are very forgiving to mistakes in environment/husbandry techniques that most all novice reptile owners inevitably make. ie.. too hot, too cold, slightly varying humidity, poorly regulated light cycles, among other things all of these will quickly, with no warning, be the demise of a Retic. Look around the inter-net. Get some good close head shots they a have very distinct cranial structure. Almost a mean look but don't be fooled these guys are great!!
And who knows maybe later you will still want a Retic at least then you will be armed with some first hand knowledge and a lot of techniques aquired for maintaining a well controled captive environment. Whatever you choose good luck.

The most common reason people give for wanting a retic is something along the lines of 'it would be cool'.

Sadly, retics are a 'fad' or 'macho' thing to show off, and not a practical pet.

They get big, have a bad temper if well cared for ('calm' retics are usually ill, vitamin deprived, or injured), cost a fortune to feed, are pretty messy, and they get abandoned or killed all the time when the keeper gets tired of the headaches.

Few people other than zoos and serious keepers can handle these guys.

Sadly, a lot of dealers happily sell these and other fad or macho pets even knowing their ultimate fate. You'll find a dozen of them with a simple Google search.

Kingsnake.com for general listings, Bobclark.com for one of the big Retic breeders out there.

Please do as much research as possible before purchasing a Retic. There are too many that are abandoned because people don't realize the expense, time commitment and size/danger of these snakes.

I recomend buying one from lllreptile.com they have great quality reptiles and the best prices around. I buy all of my reptiles from them and they come in the best condition. I would not buy such a snake at a regular pet store.
